Wakas : Wake up bro you won’t be able to eat after an hour
Bro 1 : Ok coming in a minute
Wakas : (Goes into the other room of his other bro) Wake up now me making some stuff in the kitchen and make sure you don’t make noises or mum will wake up she ain’t well.
Bro 2 : Ok me coming
All three bros sitting in the living room while Wakas is making some parathas and preparing for their first fast that will open in the next 16 hours.
The feeling is amazing, the time is holy and a soul cleansing procedure starts…
What am I talking about?
Ramadan, ofcourse
Ramadan is the month when our Holy Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, and the clear teachings. It’s the ninth lunar month in the Islamic calendar.
Millions of Muslims around the world fast from dawn to the sunset in this holy month. But what is it that makes it so interesting is that in it’s own simple way it teaches one to learn to look around and see those who are unable to access food whenever they want like most of us, and learn to appreciate what God has granted us with. Fruits and vegetables clothed in small cute little wraps for us to enjoy and fill our tummies with.
Medical professionals from various times have agreed to the benefits of fasting to our health. Because it gives our internal organs the very much required rest. The thing is that fasting is not just refraining from food like some people think. It also makes us see the important aspects of this sacred time for us Muslims.
As wikipedia says:
It also allows Muslims to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, and sympathy for those who are less fortunate, intended to make Muslims more generous and charitable. Muslims can eat after the sun has set. Pregnant women, the elderly, the ill, and travellers are all exempt from fasting as lack of food and liquid in these situations could be detrimental to health. The fast is also not considered compulsory in childhood (typically considered to end at puberty), although many children endeavour to complete as many fasts as possible, as practice for later life.
Three things I will make sure of this Ramadan
- Pray regularly
- Read Quran with translation
- Get up to help the rest of the family fast
What are the three things you are going to make sure you do this Ramadan (and later on too)?
For other lovely readers who aren’t muslims.. you are welcome to comment ofcourse

Ramadan Mubarak Bhaijaan! May peace, happiness and good health of Allah be upon you during this beautiful month of Ramadan. Ameen.
One of the many things I love about Ramadan is that it makes you value whatever you’ve been blessed with in life. It truly tests your patience, teaches you so much about sacrifice and of course self-discipline.
Since I live in a place with very very few Muslims, many of my friends don’t understand what a beautiful sacrifice this is and how much it helps me emotionally and mentally. It makes you truly understand how blessed we are to be able to have food on the table three times a day (or more if you are always munching around) and look at people around the world who aren’t even able to get clean water to drink let alone proper meal.
One of the many things I’ll be doing during and after Ramadan is to Pray regularly, continue to give to charity, read Quran (I just started it in English yesterday) and my mission is complete the whole thing during the month of Ramadan.
This month especially will be a bit challenge for you because of aunty but I know Allah will give you the strength to help your family fast and take care of them. May all your duas be granted. Lots of prayers for you and your family. Do keep me in your duas as well
It’s really nice of you to help your bros get up and fast too and making food for them. Truly remarkable! God Bless you!

Ramadan mubarak to all. Thanks for shedding some light on this holy month Wakas bro. Hope and pray that God listens to us this month and accepts our prayers..
In this month not only your body but one’s soul is also cleansed. Fasting as we believe helps oneself to become a better humanbeing, makes you test your strength as a humble and patient person and makes you stop getting into the worldly things such as lying, backtalking, hate.. One gets to learn how to polish their soul and themselves.
May Allah give you and your family the courage to go through this month and accepts all our prayers.. Ameen

@ Anam
Exactly anam.. I feel that if most of us start practicing our religion properly then there would be no confusion in our own hearts as to how we are to respond if someone asks us “What are you doing man, no food?” .. If we don’t know our religion how will we share what we do with others.. right
@ Aarzoo
Thx for the prayers and yes the soul is definitely to be cleansed, if it doesn’t then the person fasting definitely has some soul searching to do ae..

Ramadan being the most celebrated and auspicious month in Muslim lunar calender…Islam as religion is quite challenging &and fasting for entire month is one of that challenge…Unfortunately Islam is also most misunderstood religion in non-Muslim world…I will rather be repeating myself about what has already been mentioned in previous comments regarding the benefits of fasting both medical & spiritual virtues ….furthemore, I might not be qualified to do so…Fortunately there is limitless information available on the topic in the net (google 206,000 pages)…So one can find plenty to educate himself…finally to all my Muslim brothers & respected sisters have a great & blessed RAMADAN-UL-MUBARAK…
